Chris Knight has come out with a new album called Little Victories. If you want to know more about Knight and his new album, read this and this.
Knight is one of the best storytellers I've ever heard. Right up there with that other great songwriter, John Prine, who makes an appearance on this album. He writes about people that most people don't care about, who live in places most people wouldn't care to visit, who live lives most people would want.
And when I'm feeling like no one will ever produce one of my plays because who the heck wants to pay good money to watch something set on a hog farm or see some woman and her two bratty kids run across the United States, I think of Knight and the songs he sings and figure there just might be a spot for me, too. Somewhere's there's a theater--maybe not Boston or New York, but maybe someplace like Slaughter, Kentucky, though--that'll say, Now hey, that boy knows what he's talking. He's one of us.
